What to look for in your next mattress
You work hard all day and deserve a good night's rest. For quality sleep, nothing is better than a mattress adapted to your needs. Read the following tips for choosing the best mattress and catch some well-deserved z’s.
01
How to Know When to Get a New Mattress?
A foam or spring mattress may show wearing or degrading signs after approximately 10 years, or 4 300 nights or 30 000 hours of sleep if you prefer. It depends on the usage. We have to consider that our bodies and needs change over time.
How to Extend Your Mattress Lifespan
Here are a few tips that will allow you to postpone the purchase of a new mattress.
- A Mattress Topper
Place on the mattress for more comfort to reduce discomfort causing back, hip, or shoulder aches. Plus, it adds a barrier between you and dust mites! Latex toppers will provide firmness, and memory foam models will add softness. - A Boxspring
Adding a rigid boxspring or support board to a mattress installed on bed slats could be helpful. - What about a Plywood Board under the Mattress?
That is an absolute temporary solution if coil springs are broken. The flexibility factor you cancel by doing so might even harm your back.
5 TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR MATTRESS |
- Rotate Your Mattress
We recommend rotating your mattress regularly to extend its lifespan and prevent body impressions as much as possible. - Avoid Placing Your Mattress and Boxspring Directly on the Floor
It is important to let the air flow under the boxspring and mattress. Placing them directly on the floor could increase the risk of generating humidity and mold, which, as we know, could be hazardous to your health. - Use a Mattress Protector
The name says it all; a mattress protector protects your mattress. First, it protects it from stains. It also acts as a barrier against dust mites, especially if you suffer from allergies and have respiratory problems. Waterproof mattress protectors offer additional protection against minor accidents. - Vacuum the Surface Once to Twice a Year
On top of using a mattress protector, vacuuming the mattress surface will give a hard time to dust mites. - What If There Is a Stain?
Use the enzymatic fabric stain remover from the Comerco Furniture Cleaning Kit to wipe off the stain as soon as possible. If you don't have our cleaning kit on hand, spray the stain with vinegar, sprinkle baking soda over it, cover with a towel and let sit for one to two hours before vacuuming.
02
How Much Does a Quality Mattress Cost?
The cost depends on many factors, like the foam, the type and number of springs (if any), the fabric quality, the presence of lumbar supports, etc.
Before making your final decision, the best thing to do is to try it out in-store or to take advantage of the trial periods offered on many of our models.

Which Mattress Size to Choose?
If you buy a mattress and a bed simultaneously, you should measure the room and maintain a 24 in (60 cm) clearance around the bed to allow movement on both sides. On the other hand, since a twin-size bed is only for one person, it can be installed against the wall.
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF EACH BED FORMAT?
TWIN-SIZE XL MATTRESS
39 in x 80 in (90 cm x 203 cm)
The standard twin-size mattress is 74 in length, while the XL version offers an extra 6 in of comfort. Moreover, you could create a king-size bed by positioning two twin-size XL mattresses. Get a king-size bed by combining two XL electric bed bases, and you’ll get different sleeping or relaxing positions for you and your better half. Happiness!
TWIN-SIZE MATTRESS
39 in x 74 in (90 cm x 190 cm)
That is the one you choose for the youngest, and it is the size for most bunk beds. It's also an excellent solution for a guest room.
FULL-SIZE MATTRESS
54 in x 74 in (137 cm x 190 cm)
Go for a full-size mattress if your teen wants more space on all sides. This same format could suit you well if you are single or if you and your significant other love to cuddle during the night.
QUEEN-SIZE MATTRESS
60 in x 78 in (152 cm x 198 cm)
The queen-size mattress will satisfy sleepers in need of personal space.
KING-SIZE MATTRESS
78 in x 80 in (90 cm x 190 cm)
This king-size mattress will allow you to sleep like a log. It provides comfort and freedom of movement.
TIP
Always Check Your Mattress Thickness Before Buying Bedding
Many of the mattresses available today are higher than they used to be. If you get a higher mattress, purchasing new bedding and a new mattress protector will be necessary. While you're there, why not change your pillow?
04
Which Firmness Level Is Right for You?
Most people tend to move and change positions during the night. You will agree that our body often decides which position is best for our comfort. That chosen sleeping position, along with your weight, will determine what is the right level for you on the firmness scale. Whether you sleep on your back or side, the most important thing is to ensure your spine is aligned correctly.
Soft Mattress
Firmness and support are two different things; therefore, a soft mattress can also provide good-quality support. The firmness of a mattress depends on how you feel when you lie down. Therefore, if you’re a featherweight (130 lb or less) or have hip or shoulder pain, you may prefer a more comfortable soft mattress at pressure points. Perfect for side sleepers.
Medium-Firm Mattress
Medium-firm mattresses are among the most popular because they suit most sleepers. They provide a smooth, comfy layer (thicker than firm mattresses) on a firm base. This category also includes hybrid mattresses that combine springs and memory foam or latex. The medium-firm mattress lets your body feel curled up while being fully supported. Suitable for most sleepers, including people with circulation or numbness problems.
Firm Mattress
High-density foam or spring mattresses generally belong to this category. Hefty sleepers will appreciate the comfort and support firm mattresses provide. And for the stomach sleeper, a firm mattress is less likely to cause your spine to curve.

Choosing the Right Type of Mattress
How to find your way around all these components? Choosing the right mattress represents an investment that impacts your well-being, mood, and health.
Regular Spring Mattress
Attached springs are more likely to provide a stable surface, and many springs (about 800 for queen-size mattresses) mean more body support. Spring mattresses are also suitable for hot sleepers; the springs allow greater airflow. This option remains the least expensive mattress in any case.
Pocket Spring Mattress
Pocket spring mattresses represent a good value and option for all the hot sleepers out there, as they allow excellent airflow and keep you dry and cool. Pocket coils provide support, flexibility, and superior spinal alignment.
Hybrid Mattress
Based on innovative technologies, the hybrid mattress stacks several layers to create solid and soft comfort and to provide restful nights. A combination of different foam types, sometimes latex, can spread the pressure points and provide better airflow with a comfortable and enveloping surface. Hybrid mattresses suit most sleepers and generally fit electric adjustable beds.
Regular-Top Mattress
A regular top is the mattress padding thickness on the surface. This layer provides today's spring or foam mattresses with a soft and relaxing surface. It also adds comfort and support to firm mattresses.
Eurotop Mattress
This padded layer is an additional independent element on top of the basic mattress composition. The Eurotop pillow offers increased support and a guarantee of extreme comfort. It is a must for anyone needing body support or suffering from osteoarthritis problems.
Foam Mattress
Foam mattresses render a soothing and cozy cushion to answer multiple needs. The most recent iterations offer a variety of foam combinations, while the first models were made of a single material.

Mattresses-in-a-Box; Fabulously Convenient!
Foam mattresses - which sometimes contain pocket springs - are compressed into a bag by the manufacturer, rolled up, and put into a box.
In recent years, mattresses-in-a-box have gained in popularity. And for a lot of reasons:
- They are easy to transport (they fit in the car trunk).
- They are easy to install (see the info and watch the unpacking video below).
- Thanks to technological research, they are as comfortable as regular mattresses (depending on your needs).
The 90-night trial period (see here for more info on our ComfoRD trial policy) is so convenient! Contact our customer service or visit us in-store if you change models.

So simple!

2 - Unwrap the outer plastic wrap and place the mattress on the bed.
3 - Remove the plastic wrap with scissors; be careful not to damage the mattress cover.
4 - Watch it unfold and take shape (it will take 24 to 72 hours to reach its full volume).
5 - And there you go! Time for bed.
07
Do I Need a New Boxspring?
Remember that the boxspring supports the mattress, not the body. It would be wrong to think it can compensate for your mattress' weaknesses.
Since boxsprings have different possible thicknesses, choose a thinner one to reduce the overall height of your bed.
Foam or latex mattresses require a definite rigid base, so support boards are important. Good to know that support boards are generally 2 inches high.
Platform and Electric beds do not require a boxspring. Some European slatted beds do not necessitate a boxspring. In such a case, it is important to have a bed base with at least two centre legs to prevent the mattress from sagging and getting uncomfortable.
08
Thinking About Getting an Electric Bed Base?
Electric bed bases are boxsprings made of a mechanical frame with adjustable sections controlled by a wireless remote control. It allows you to lift the legs and head to reach a zero gravity position that will help eliminate back strain and improve blood circulation.
